WHY DO I WRITE?
People often ask me, “Why do you write?”
The simple answer is – to quote Mordechai Richler – because I have to.
Twenty years ago, when I indelicately remonstrated with a friend about not remembering either the title, or the content or the name of the author of the book which she was reading, she retorted ”If you’re so smart, why don’t you write a thriller that’s not only a page-turner, but also has style and meaning.”
I met her challenge by writing a full-blown novel, my first, within a year. In the process, I also found the solution to something that was seriously distressing me.
Professionally, I am not allowed to divulge the details of the
experiences I harvested during years of living in the secretive
environment of commercial chicanery, international intrigue and
double dealing.
So I now fictionalize them then share them with my readers
through my novels.
I have also discovered that I am a born story-teller who keeps on writing - constantly and continuously - unable to stop.
